Detroit Lions 2012 draft selections so far
Rd 1, Pick 23 (23) Reiff, Riley OT
Rd 2, Pick 22 (54) Broyles, Ryan WR
Rd 3, Pick 22 (85) Bentley, Dwight CB
Rd 4, Pick 30 (125) Lewis, Ronnell OLB
Rd 5, Pick 3 (138) Whitehead, Tahir OLB
Rd 5, Pick 13 (148) Greenwood, Chris CB
My Lions draft grade is a disappointing D+. Although the new additions will add depth to the Lions roster none will come in and make an immediate impact on the team. Riley is not guaranteed to start. Broyles is a good receiver but, he is rehabbing a torn ACL suffered towards the end of last season which will affect his speed and ability to make solid cuts while running his routes(at least in the first half of the season). Also he would be nothing more than the 5th option on an offense already loaded with talent at the WR,TE, AND RB positions. CB Bentley is the worst pick the Lions have made in a long time. He plays well in zone cover packages but he is terrible in man to man coverages which is magnified by the fact he is a awful tackler who shys away from contact. The 2 linebackers are ok picks but they wont be starting anytime soon. After watching Detroit make great progress last year and going 10-6 I feel like the Lions are really just 1 defensive play maker away from taking their game to the next level. I hope I'm wrong but they didn't get that play maker in this years draft.
